SUMMARY

TechServ is currently seeking damage assessment DRIVERS willing to respond to major weather events and federal disasters that affect our utility partners throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.  The Driver position is a seasonal and/or temporary position and workers are called upon throughout the year to drive for an assigned Damage Assessor during storm events lasting anywhere from 1 day to weeks at a time and travel is required.  Drivers assist a Storm Damage Assessor as needed but the main responsibility is safe driving in all types of weather events and road conditions. For safety, Drivers shall not separate from Damage Assessors at any time during damage assessment activities that are being performed.

 

DRIVER JOB DUTIES

 

The following duties described herein are a general statement of required essential functions performed regularly and continuously during a storm restoration event. It does not exclude other duties as assigned.

TechServ Driver positions are seasonal/temporary positions that are paid for the work performed and do not include benefits, vacation, and/or holiday pay.

  • Drivers must prioritize safety by making informed decisions and conducting a thorough assessment of the surroundings to identify potential safety concerns.
  • Drivers are responsible for navigating stressful driving conditions in all types of weather events.
  • Drivers will be assigned to drive for a Storm Damage Assessor.  Pairings on behalf of active drivers and assessors who know each other is recommended but not required. 
  • Drivers are assigned locations within an affected area of major storms and/or federal disasters and responsible for safely reaching desired locations.
  • Drivers assist Storm Damage Assessors in note taking, reading utility and road maps, GPS and other tasks which do not require electric utility experience.
  • It is the Storm Services Driver’s responsibility to maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
  • Drivers are responsible for communicating and participating with assigned Assessor at all times during the course of storm duty.

DRIVER JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • Applicants are required to pass a motor vehicle records (MVR) background check.
  • Drivers must act in a professional and cautious manner to ensure the safety of self and the public.
  • This is a traveling position where extended periods away from home are often required with short notice.
  • Drivers are required to follow local and state motor vehicle driving laws at all times.
  • Drivers and assigned assessors are to coordinate a meeting location when called to engage in storm restoration activities.

DRIVER SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Possess Smartphone device with data plan.
  • Must be available for the work hours required by the utilities schedule.
  • Must be available to work until the completion of work and/or released by the utility.
  • Minimum age: 21 to drive TechServ rented vehicle.
  • Able to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to write simple correspondence.
  • Preferred:  CPR/First Aid Certified

DRIVER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Walking for long distances is required to assist damage assessor team member.
  • Prolonged sitting and standing are required.
  • Occasional need to lift, pull, carry, and push items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner.
  • Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and utility needs.

VEHICLE AGREEMENT

  • If personal vehicle used for Driving the following guidelines shall be followed:

 

    • Summer Storm Event:            4WD or AWD Truck or SUV Preferred
    • Winter Storm Event:               4WD or AWD Truck or SUV Required
